La podem trobar en camps agrícoles, camps abandonats i en les voreress dels camins. Arriba a aconseguir un metre d'altura, fulles lanceolades de color verd. Flores amb un calze unflat i pètals blancs, que li donen una imatge molt característica. Les seues fulles es consumeixen abans que florisca la planta i prèviament bullides en ensalades, truites, bullits…
El seu nom científic Silene vulgaris, prové Silene de Sileno representat habitualment amb el ventre unflat, preceptor de Dionisio i vulgaris en llatí comú.

Its scientific name Silene vulgaris, comes from Silenus (an aged satyr), usually represented with a swollen belly, who was the preceptor (instructor) of Dionysus and vulgaris means common in Latin.
La podemos encontrar en campos agrícolas, campos abandonados y a los lados de los caminos. Llega a alcanzar un metro de altura, hojas lanceoladas de color verde. Flores con un cáliz hinchado y pétalos blancos, que le dan una imagen muy característica. Sus hojas se consumen antes de que florezca la planta y previamente hervidas en ensaladas, tortillas, hervidos…
