Carlos Von Linneo
va dissenyar la classificació dels éssers vius (taxonomia). Va crear un sistema
de nomenclatura binomial, la primera paraula, amb la inicial en majúscula,
indica el gènere, la segona correspon a
l'espècie descrita. Amb aquesta nomenclatura, independentment de la llengua que
utilitzem, sabem de quina espècie estem parlant. Quan Linneo classifica la Iphiclides
podalirius veu la semblança amb la Papilio
machaon (que ja teniu en el blog). Per això els dona els noms de dos germans
que apareixen en la Íliada, Podalirius i Macaón, fills Asclepio el Déu de la
medicina grega.

Carl Linnaeus/Carlos Von Linneo designed the classification of living things (taxonomy). He created a binomial naming system, the first word indicating the genus, the second the species. With this nomenclature, regardless of the language we use, we know what species we are talking about. When Linneo classified the Iphiclidespodalirius he saw its resemblance to Papiliomachaon (which is already on the blog). That is why he gave themnames of two brothers who appear in the Iliad, Podalirius and Macaon, sons Asclepius the God of Greek medicine.
